What is Retargeting?

Retargeting is a subset of marketing that focuses on addressing users who already showed interest in a product or an app in the past. The goal of retargeting is to create additional conversions, for instance:

  • convincing a user who visited a product page to download an app
  • reactivating a user who used an app in the past
  • pushing an active user to a deeper level of engagement
  • encouraging an active user to make a (or another) purchase

The means and channels of communication for this purpose include:

  • in-app messages and push notifications
  • banner, text and video ads on websites or in 3rd party apps
  • newsletters
  • messages on social media
